The wines ageing potential depend a lot of transport conditions, especially when exported overseas.
The temperature inside non-insulated containers can exceed 50°C in the sun if it isn't sufficiently refrigerated. A sudden increase or drop in temperature of the wine will cause an immediate ageing that will damage the wine that a perfect subsequent conservation cannot compensate.
This is why, for the last two year, the Domaine Leflaive has included in every single shipment leaving our cellars a new technology called eProvenance. These are sensors which record at every time during transport the ambient temperature and hygrometry. Upon receipt of the wines by the importer, the sensors are sent back to e-Provenance to analyse the integrity of the transport. You can view the e-provenance technology on www.eprovenance.com.
The experience of the last two years was rather reassuring as we haven't found any temperature variation likely to damage the wines.
