Life at Domaine Leflaive remained virtually the same during the lockdown. Work in the vineyard and in the cellar, continued almost as usual. As ideas sometimes arise from constraints, we had to reinvent visits and tastings with our customers ...
The radiant weather, almost a bit warm for an early spring, made it possible to carry out a number of virtual tastings, vineyard visits by Teams / Zoom / Skype and even organise a few dinners, also virtual.
One of these sessions even brought together fans from the West Coast of the United States, the East Coast, France and Switzerland around a bottle of Chevalier 2014 and a few other nice bottles among some participants for whom the day was just beginning ...
At the initiative of Daniel Johnnes, the dynamic creator of La Paulée de New-York, we also organized a tour of the vineyard from the top of the Chevaliers-Montrachet. The profits from this event are donated to New York sommeliers who could not work during the lockdown.
Daniel and his team had the good idea to record it and allowed us to reproduce it on the Domaine's site. The video was filmed as an amateur by my daughter, with my i-phone. The image of the video sometimes freezes and the wind comments with me on the thousand nuances of Puligny's terroirs. My English accent sounds immensely French but since it seems that it is considered charming, I shall continue to maintain it ...
