"An intense version, yet reticent, hesitating to fully unlock the floral, apple, lemon and mineral aromas and flavors today. Builds in intensity to a long, pure finish of lemon, stone and spice."

"Pale yellow. Subtly complex aromas of candied pear, lime and white flowers. Juicy and tight in the mouth, with a distinctly cool quality and nicely integrated acidity to the pear, peach and floral flavors. Good stuffing and extract here; finishes subtle, quite dry and long. A very pure 2013.”

Rich and full but classically dry and serious, with firm minerality giving the wine cut and framing the finish. But not quite as long as the Folatières. "A very ripe and yet one more time, openly exotic nose of acacia blossom, peach, apricot and even a hint of mango complements perfectly the powerful, succulent and lush big bodied flavors brimming with dry extract and a sappy and mouth coating finish. This is perhaps a bit less elegant than it usually is but the impressive depth makes up for it - moreover, the nose implies sweetness yet the finish is quite dry."

Fuller golden, green colour. The oldest vines of the first growths and the tiny amount they produced is superb. Taut but sweetly fruited nose, biscuity rich. The palate is supple, beautifully evolved with ripe, subtly powerful fruit and a honeyed, silky, long finish. Drink in 2006.

Attractive with its poached pear and mineral aromas, it is slightly robust, with marvellously deep, satiny fruitiness and packed with mineral (again), creamy citrus and spicy notes. The 1997 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes reveals mouth-watering scents of candied almonds, apples, and pears. It is not as flashy a wine as the Folatieres, preferring to express itself in a more elegant manner. This medium-bodied, thick, velvety-textured, and focused wine is extremely well-balanced, deeply ripe, and impeccably crafted. Stones, white flowers, and sweet pears can be found in its delicated flavor profile and throughout its impressive finish. Projected maturity: 2000-2006+. Once again, Domaine Leflaive has crafted a superb Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles. The 1997 exhibits bright aromatics of lemon juice, stones, and white flowers, as well as a highly-expressive, medium-to-full-bodied character. This wine's velvety-textured flavor profile is resplendent, serving up layers of nuts, toasty oak, and a fabulous minerality. It has crystalline purity, a rarity in this vintage, and a long, fresh, and defined finish. Projected maturity: 2001-2008."

2003 Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet Les Combettes
Pale medium yellow. Subdued but pure aromas of peach, lemon, flowers and spicy oak. Soft, rich and fresh, with less exotic flavors and less obvious alcohol than the foregoing samples. This finishes with excellent length. 90 points.

      Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes
Fuller golden, green colour. The oldest vines of the first growths and the tiny amount they produced is superb. Taut but sweetly fruited nose, biscuity rich. The palate is supple, beautifully evolved with ripe, subtly powerful fruit and a honeyed, silky, long finish. Drink in 2006.

Decent fruit. Stylish. Reasonable balance. But a touch neutral. An absence of zip and depth. Very good at best. From 2007.

      Puligny-Montrachet Combettes
Bursting forth with spicy yellow plums, apricots, and pears, the 2003 puligny-Montrachet-Combettes (white, 90-92) is a delightfully soft, deep, rich medium-bodied wine. Its beguiling candied apple, sweet mineral, and spiced pear flavors are fleshy, expressive, and prolonged throughout its suave finish. Anticipated maturity : now-2012.
